PhD Openings

Ph.D. positions (enroll in Jan/Sep 2026) are available in the Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) of City University of Hong Kong (CityU HK). Interested candidates can send their CVs, transcripts, TOEFL/IELTS, and representative publications (if applicable) to my email. Successful candidates will directly work with Dr. Qun Song. The candidates will conduct system research in Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber-physical systems (CPSs). Research topics include but are not limited to:

• Robust and Secure AI for CPS/IoT
• AI-Powered Novel Sensing Applications
• Privacy-Preserving CPS/IoT
• Efficient and Personalized Edge Sensing

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in STEM or related fields with good grades.
• Solid programming skills and prototyping capabilities.
• Knowledgeable in machine learning and deep learning.
• Research experience in CPS, IoT, mobile computing, sensing, signal processing, deep learning, embedded systems, robotics, and related domains will be highly preferred.
• CityU PhD english requirement: TOEFL>=79, IELTS >=6.5, or CET-6 >=490

• Excellent candidates can apply for the competitive Hong Kong PhD fellowship Scheme (HKPFS).

About the Supervisor

Dr. Qun Song received Ph.D. from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and B.Eng. from Nankai University, China. Her research interests include the Internet of Things, cyber-physical systems, and artificial intelligence. She published multiple papers in top-tier conferences and journals including SenSys, UbiComp, MobiCom, IPSN, USENIX Security, AAAI, IJCAI, TMC, TOSN, and TDSC. She is the recipient of the 2023 MobiCom Best Community Contribution Award, the 2022 SenSys Best Paper Award Finalist, and the 2021 IPSN Best Artifact Award Runner-up.
